Mended Little Hearts Stories
Hunter
Coarctation of the Aorta

Hunter was born in February 2006. A perfect little boy inside and out. Our pediatrician came to do a routine check up at the hospital for her new babies that morning after he was born and when Hunter was checked she let us know that she heard a heart murmur in him and wanted to have an EKG done on him later that afternoon.

At about 9:00 that night my nurse came in and took Hunter from us and said that he had to be rushed to All Children's Hospital. We were extremely scared and upset and for the next 3 days my husband spent his
time between 2 hospitals...checking on his wife and his new son. Once I was released, our time at All Childrens had just begun. For days, Hunter had EKG's done on him and he was finally diagnosed with Coarctation of
the Aorta. We had no idea how serious this was and what would lie ahead.

The cardiologist and surgeons at All Childrens were wonderful. They explained everything in such great detail and assured us that our little boy would be fine. Hunter was going to have to have surgery by and if not before 3 months old. Well after 2 1/2 weeks in All Childrens we finally took our little guy home. We continued many cardiologists
follow-ups leading to his surgery. By the end of April his surgery had taken place and went perfect. The doctors and nurses of All Childrens Hospital were again great and took such great care of our little guy. We will continue to follow up with the cardiologists twice a year. During our time at All Childrens we met new friends that introduced us
to Mended Little Hearts. This group is such a blessing. They give families hope, encouragement, and guidance while dealing with a child that has a CHD.
